the approach

Similar to the obsessive
activities of the medieval cartographer, Clodagh Emoe’s practice
attempts to plot unknown territories. In creating these detailed
drawings a shift occurs and the pencil mark slips. This loss of control
that occurs in the process is fundamental to the work. Similar to
the drawings, glitches occur in the video works and sculptural objects – this
unedited aesthetic bestows the work with it’s own authority.
Allowing the remnants of production to remain in the finished work
enables the perception of the intricacies, and more importantly,
the flaws those are fundamental to the theme of the exhibition. The
Approach articulates how our desire for absolute knowledge is often
disrupted and frustrated.
